Eve, How's that hatchling of yours?

lizard_lover Jul 01, 2005 07:33 PM

I hadn't heard an update in a while; I was hoping the baby was still alive and improving.

Hes with all the little lizards that don't make it!

Terrible, especially once you see them hatch and how gorgoeus they are but he was having problems about an hour or so out of the egg. I had been estatic bragging about how beautiful he was and so happy he made it okay.

Then everything went down hill. Have to think it all out and try and figure what went wrong.

Thanks for asking and your kind thoughts kid, but it's a holiday weekend so lets just think Happier thoughts for now

Hows all your critters? How is the tegu Tango?

Sorry to hear about your vestigium. For some reason, they aren't a prolific like collaris. I've have more bad luck than good luck trying to breed them. All you can do is keep trying.

so very true. I guess thats why these beautiful lizards remain so SPECIAL and Treasured by everyone who ever has them. I look at my adults, or Chippewa who is now a year old and always think

WOW, they are so very AWESOME !

I'm sure sorry to hear that you lost the baby; if you're anything like me (and I have a sneaking suspicion we were sisters in a former life) your emotional investment in those babies is huge. I know it must hurt a lot to be so helpless to do anything. I'm sorry, Eve.

About my critters--all are quite well, thought the tegu has a small problem that has me perplexed: I keep seeing small round scabs forming here and there on its body. I can't imagine what might be causing them. I haven't seen any bugs, the light source isn't burning the skin, and there's nothing particularly sharp in the cage either (I have it on a combination of sand on one side and wood chips on the other which it likes to bury itself under), so I'm at a loss for what's causing this. Any ideas?

shedding okay? Any problems with that at all? And you have looked for signs of mites?

Other than those things, and you say theres nothing sharp in his enclosure, I really don't know without seeing it what to think.

If I were you I would go the link below, and ask on the tegu forum, I'm sure someone may have some ideas for you that maybe have dealt with it.
If you get no satifaction there, I have a buddy very nice guy, has a large red tegu who I can ask.

let me know if you find anything out on tegu forum.

Thanks again as far as the baby, yeah, ya get pretty darn involved thats for sure, I know you understand

Thanks, Eve

I haven't seen any mites, but then again I haven't taken a magnifying glass to the cage . . . maybe I should. In the past, though, I've been able see them pretty easily. As for shedding, he/she sheds all the time since it's growing so fast. The only problem with shedding is that the skin sticks where the scab is. Otherwise it's fine.

Thanks for your help

I once had an anole that formed such scabs. I was really at a loss as to what the problem was. I figured he just got a scratch on something, but one day I came home to find that some crickets had ganged up on him, and had killed him. They ate a whole in his head. That was my first reptile... when I was.. like 12. lol.

Just sharing a story... I know Tegu's are far too agressive to let a little 'ole cricket do such a thing. Anywho, good luck finding out what it is!
