A few questions...

#1 Any Substitution to rodent feeding?

I mean, i love snakes, alot, but im only a teenager and my little brother keeps rats, and my mom isnt found of the fact that i want to feed a snake mice and/or rats.

It would be fine to feed insects, such as Hissing Roaches, if i could start a colony, and scent them with a few mice... could i do this if i perhaps have a substitution with proper nutrional value??

#2 If not yes to the question above, how could i convince my mom to allow rodents?

#3 I currently have a kitten who is about 4 and a half months old, who primarily sleeps at night in my room, now would any special precautions have to be taken care of if i have a b p in my room?

Thanks
Nic

They eat RODENTS and that's it!

Can't say how to convince your Mom, I don't know her.

And there shouldn't be a problem with your cat as the snake should be in an escape-proof and cat-proof cage.

Now see the only problem with rodents is my mom will not allow them in her freezer, the only other solution would be to put a fridge in my room, but i dunno where to find a tiny and inexpensive one...

The small freezers, even though they are small, aren't any cheaper than the big ones!! Its really messed up.

But if you only have one snake, maybe a weekly/bi-monthly trip to the pet store to get a rat isn't a big problem. I don't know. You CAN feed live if you do it responsibly. Every big breeder you see here feeds live (I think). If done responsibly, it CAN be done.

Don't know what else to say. Unless maybe you can buddy up with a rat breeder and get them singly one in awhile.

Let us know how it goes.

P.S. Get it all figured out BEFORE you get the snake. Always the best way to do it.

your brother has rats...you have a cat.and you can breed hissing roaches......

that's enough pets........you aren't ready for snakes yet.....

your mom would kill you when she found the 50 rat fuzzies in the freezer next to the freezy pops........

well, i said the hissing roaches could be an option, the rats are on the other side of the house, and my cat only sleeps in my room at night, (she comes in about 1:00 AM) we also have 2 other cats and a dog, and my mom grew up with alot of animals so she has no problem usually with new animals, as long as i would pay for it, but she doesnt like snakes, and my dad doesnt like animals

Unfortunately, when it comes to reptiles, there's only a little bit of variation in ways to care for them properly. The only snakes that eat insects are things like green grass snakes. Larger snakes can't live off small, foreign foods like insects. Its hard enough to get them to eat mice sometimes... lol

If you want to raise insects to feed your pet, then I suggest you start looking at lizard species. You shouldn't find ways to keep a pet to your specifications. You find a pet that you are able to care for appropriately with the time, money, and space you have available right now.

If you don't have freezer-space for mice, and your mom won't let you bring home the cute cousins of your little brothers pets, then you need to respect both of their needs while you're living under the same roof and find a more suitable pet for your household.

don't forget that ball pythons seem cheap, but proper caging will often cost $100-200 for a long term pet.
