Not quite alterna but... South Central US

stevenxowens792 Jul 01, 2005 10:23 PM

We are hunters so we have to brag about something. El Lance and I were out in South Central US on a rocket run. Lance and I had a good night since Lance saw 2 lifers and I saw 1.

Here are the herps we saw Wednesday Night.

6 Timber Rattlesnakes (Lifer for Lance)
2 Red Milksnakes (Lifer for both Lance and I)
2 Copperheads
1 Speckled King

1 of the timbers was AMAZING! It had a bluish/Purple hue to it.
Almost looks like a HUGE PYGMY. It was over 3 feet long.
I have to apologize for my pictures. Most of the timbers were in hot pursuit of something cause none of them would sit still. The milk pics are on aspen. All animals were observed on the road/shoulder.

Timber 1

Timber 2 These were put under a plastic container to take the pictures...

This one is the bluish one. AWESOME but the picture stinks...It was about 3 1/2 feet long

Redmilk # 1

Redmilk # 2

Thanks for viewing...

Nice trip. You guys ought to come up my way for timbers. I'll put you on some yellows and dark phase to die for.

Thanks Coach. That was my first and second red milk. I seem to have better luck finding milks than alterna. Wish it was the other way around. I am glad you two had a great year. I know if you keep scoring you will keep coming and hopefully we can do lunch again. I think Joe has got me thinking it is time to hit some other places. 3 of 7 nights on the river Lance and I were by ourselves and they were the best nights of collecting ever. So I am going to dedicate my time to finding other spots where no other folks are present.

Best wishes to you and moe,

Steven

That somehow I locked myself in the car and we lost site of the speckeled king as fast as we found it... I am amazed at how fast an animal can vanish in the grassy shoulder.

But if we did not stop and spend all the time looking for it, we would not have hit the road at the same time as red milk #2... so all is well if you ask me.
