Breeders/Future Breeders of APTORS? Others with input?

cherribomb Jul 02, 2005 06:14 PM

Sorry, I have to revive this thread out of self-interest

Looking for everyone's input/personal experience...if there is any yet:

Who all has APTOR projects in the makings or are considering doing so in the future? Has anyone already begun an APTOR/RAPTOR project? I'd love to see the results, the offspring, etc.

I've seen SO MANY people advertising "HET for APTOR"s. I have to admit that I'm not enamoured with the whole APTOR look, but I'm really curious about the genetic basis for this morph...if it is a recessive trait at all (see comment below). I guess we'll have to wait for more people to start their projects. Maybe next season?

I thought Gregg's comment was pretty thought provoking - I'm not a breeder and I didn't really question what everyone had been telling me. I'm really interested in whether this is a line-bred trait or, as Tremper would love to claim, a novel recessive morph...

GreggMM Wrote:

The APTORs have not yet proven out to be recessive gene so animals sold as hets are questionable.... It is mostly pure speculation at this time.....

I strongly feel that this "new patternless gene" is not a new recessive morph.... I think it is more line bred genetics than anything..... Only time will tell for sure....

Ron states that A.P.T.O.R. = a Carrot-head, Carrot-tail, Hypo Tangerine, Patternless, Tremper Albino. He also says his new patternless gene is totally separate from the "leucistic" and blizzard lines, but does not mention if it's recessive.

I suggest you send an email to Ron and ask him.

Further there may be stripe, reverse stripe and/or jungle genetics mixed into some of them.

As for breeding het A.P.T.O.R. to het A.P.T.O.R. I suggest you try the Advanced Genetics Wizard and include all the possibilities.

I'm more looking for personal experiences...I get the theoretical genetics and I doubt Ron would answer such a question in an unbiased manner!!

Guess I'm a bit premature in asking these questions.

I have a small Aptor project going. I have bred to my Aptor male a pure Aptor female, a het female, and 2 SHT's. Aptor to Aptor has given me all Aptor babies. Het to Aptor, has so far given me 4 Aptor hets and 2 Aptors. SHT to Aptor of course gave me SHT's het for Aptor. But they are knock-out tangerines! Of course your percentages of getting an Aptor from a het to het breeding would be lower.
