Depends on the size of the hatchling - I have hatchlings that are 40-50 grams and take hopper mice or rat fuzzies - I have other hatchlings that are 70 grams and up and take rat pups.

Ball python hatchlings are far from small compared to some other snakes that are commonly kept. In fact many BP's can start feeding immediately on Rat pups. IMO pinkie mice are too small to start off with so were talking at least fuzzy mice. So yes they eat rodents.
