feeding trouble please help

lottasnakes Jul 02, 2005 08:58 PM

I have a 9 month old tang honduran that simply refuses to eat....I have tried smaller sizes ...thumping them letting them run ...everything I can think of. I took her to the local snake expert here in town (snakeman) he kept her two days and couldnt get her to eat either. I moved her to a new tank but have since removed the aspen and replicated her old environment. she hasnt ate in 2 or 2 and a half months. she has adequate temperature , two hide boxes , I am at a loss can anyone offer any advice.
( she has lost some weight but is holding steady. she is still seemingly healthy and is most definately acting hungry)

BTW we have tried leaving pinkies in her tank over night and we also tried slicing its neck. Even though she acts interested in the blood she slithers away and acts skittish.

Have you tried confining the snake and pinkies to a smaller area over night. Like a deli cup or small box. You'll find this works suprisingly well!!

ok I have her in the container....We will check on her in the morning I have my fingers crossed. If not should I follow the pet stores advice to bring her in and let them force feed her??

Heres hoping....

Some baby snakes look fine but my have internal problems. If it does'nt make at least you know you did what you could. If you force feed the snake will deteriorate with stress. Good Luck!!

Losing her isnt an option. My son will be devastated as would I I am going to keep trying.

Could she just be fasting for whatever reason? could she be in season for a mate?

to help people here come up with solutions, how big is the snake? and how big are the food items you're offering?

ok well we were feeding her small hoppers until may when she stopped eatting. since we have tried several sizes, pinkies, hoppers, fuzzies. we have tried thumping them feeding frozen we even took her to Snakemans shop and he kept her three days. He says she is in good health... she is holding her weight and flicking her tongue. She is drinking well also.
she is about 2.5 feet long and in a 29 long tank. She turned a year old in june. I think she looks a lil thin compared to normal but she still looks healthy. She is urinating ok .

The only thing i noticed is her feces are pretty runny the last day or two. she is active still too.

I dunno what to do with her .....Am worried

pet store said force feed her I dunno about all that tho

There may be your answer. She may have eaten too much and is overweight. This may be her way to tell you she does not want to be fat?
If her stool is runny she must have been eating something.
Personally I would just leave her alone for a while.
