Spiny questions (no one in spinyforum is answering)

I used to have a bearded dragon. Will my blue spiny lizard ever be as tame as a bearded? right now he is skiddish and uncooperative. Also, do they eat any type of vegetation or will a diet of crickets work? Is there an easy way to sex them? He/She is in a 20 gallon long aquarium, can i put anything else in there? I was thinking like a young garter snake.

probably will never be a friendly as a beardie, NO ! They are a more skiddish lizard. I would think if you ad him since he was a hatchling and held him everyday , you may be able to hand tame him.

But a larger lizard will be much harder to get tamed down if ever. He may always stay a bit skiddish. They are quite secretive in the wild.

I do not believe they eat any veggies, just bugs, and they LOVE flying insects. My emerald swifts love things that fly, moths, whatever.

No, never put a snake in with a lizard, you will stress the heck out of him, and he will not be able to escape , hes trapped with it. Better not putting anything with your spiny except another spiny!

Post some pics if ya get the chance

The females will have small scales just under vent but as far as males, look for the paired enlarged scales just past the vent, you can even see them on hatchlings.

You can also see the pores along his back legs, but these can be difficult to see in very young lizards.

If you need pics let me know!

eve pretty much answered it well, i was going to try but i know nothing about spiny lizards. anyway it is always a good idea to gut load your crickets before feeding them to your lizards. i mostly stick in leafy greens like bok choy, endive and escarole since i feed them to my uros but eve has a great list of things she feeds to her crickets. i usually buy them the day before and then let them eat for the night and the next day the lizards eat them and the veggies in them. here is a link that might help you. it was the only one i could find
