my brooks!

kinglover Jul 02, 2005 11:45 PM

i have a brooks kingsnake, 27 inches give or take a little, and i would really like to breed her, i think the results would be amazining! i dont think that she is mature yet, but when she is, i would like to start breeding her. im pretty new to the whole breeding scene and any advice on breeding her would be great. i know about the hibernation and things like that, but i still have questions, can anyone help me?

yes I have several morphs I am breeding

u said u had 20 years exp. with breeding. but what if one of them eats the other?

Be careful that male/female pairs do not eat when put together. Make sure the two are interested in copulation and not eating. Also feeding them well before introducing them will help. Nothing like a hungry king.haha.

and if i breed, where am i going to sell? im not too good with shipping and stuff, im only a teenager lol

Well you can sell at a reptile show, herp club or locale pet shop. Check your area for any reptile clubs as this is the best bet for a teenager like yourself.

well i dont know of any clubs like that, and pet shops would only buy one, so what if i all the sudden had 5 or 6 kingsnakes just sitting in my house and nowhere to go? that would be a big problem, and i am the only person i know that owns a reptile. are there any pieces of advice, good webpages, anything like that that have really helped you breed ur brooks? also, if i bred, i would need a male soon. i suppose you have some, my female is roughly 27 inches.

what city and state do you live in? Maybe someone can help direct you to the nearest club in your area. If not there is plenty of resources here on this site and you can share and learn by just reading this forum.

Most pet shops buy in quantity and are not that interested in buying just one. Give them a good price and they will want them.

You will need an adult male if you want to cycle him with the female this summer. Cycling (ie brumation, hibernation)is when you stop feeding your brooks in Nov and keep them cool until March. Then feed the female and intoduce the male to her cage after her first shed.

There is lots of time for you to read this forum. I am sure you will pick up lots of tips on caring and breeding your brooksi. In the meantime you will also discover ways to sell your offspring.

Good luck and stay tuned to the posts on this forum.
