Not boa related, but does anyone have an explanation for this?

Illianareps Jul 15, 2003 01:14 AM

I breed Albino Burmese. As anyone who has ever bred them or had the pleasure of trying to handle one (until after several feedings and a few weeks working with an individual) knows, they are holy terrors...biting machines.

One of my good friends breeds every Burmese morph known to man, with the same mean, biting machines...with one exception:his granites. They,(and the hets for granite) are as gentle as baby Boas right off the bat.You can have twenty of them in a container and reach in to pick up a couple and not the first strike. They durn near smile at you when you take them out. What logical explanation could there be for this? They are that way from the get-go.

Well, all granites are necessarily very closely related, maybe the founder snake just happpened to have an inborn docile personality. I think that to a point snakes are born with their temperments, although it can certainly be modified with experience.
