a few simple questions.....

1.ok should i leave the basking spot light on 24/7? should it just be on at night? just at day?

2.also, should i put the hide box in the basking spot so that it is warm in there? or should i put it in a cooler spot? or on the spot where the mat heats the floor?

3.its ok to have a heat mat and a light also, right? so the floor and air is warm....?... or is that too much...

I've never seen any of my snakes bask - so the light is mostly for heat - turn it on when the tank gets cool turn it off when it gets hot. Or better yet hook it up to a thermostat so you don't have to worry about frying your pet. I personally stay away from lights (and Ceramic heat emmitters) they suck all the moisture out of the cage.

Idealy your snake should have one on the warm side of the cage and the cool side of the cage. Indirect heat is the best you don't really want them spending most of their time right over the heat mat, those can get too hot and cause burns.

If the heat mat does a good job at heating the tank a light is not at all necessary my tank doesn't even have a light, see above statement about lights.
