Acting strange!

EYELOVEMYLIZARD Jul 03, 2005 11:25 AM

Hey! My beardie is about 2 years and once summer started she's been acting strange.. she is messing up her cage every time i clean it, making the paper towels fly every where. Shes pooing all over her cage.. *usually poo's in one place*. she's been running at the glass and now her nose is sort-of bruising... i probably dont play with her as much as i should.

Any one know why?
Thanks in advance!!

I don't know about the poo but when i first got my beardie when he was young he did the running up and down the glass bruising his nose. i would pick him up when he started put him back in later and he would just carry on and i handled and always have handled mine about 3 or 4 times a day. i think it is just part of the whole crazy beardie behaviour.

Hope this helps a bit if you are anything like me i panic when anything happens and no amount of info is enough.

Kayleigh

What are the temps in the cage, particularly on the hot end? It may be that since summer started the temps got too high and the rubbing behavior is your beardie trying to get out of the cage

Hi,
What size cage is youe beardie in? I ask because I've seen dragons claw like mad to get out if they're in too small a cage. Or he could be doing it just to do it....I've seen that also!

?? N/P does that mean no problem? lol sry im sorta slow with abbrieviations. I think her cage is fairly large, 40 breeder.. shes been the same size for a year or so and is just getting fatter.. shes always been fine with her cage and am sure thats not the problem..
* right now the temp is 80*F
THANKS Alot!!

Oh i see now you called her a he so u were correcting your self.. LOl. agh! now i get it

bleedthefreak Jul 04, 2005 01:35 PM

Lol. Yes...I was correcting myself, and N/P means "no post". The cage size sounds ok...but I'm confused as to the temp? You said 80. Is that the hot or cool side and what is the actual basking temp? Do you use a temp gun or digi probe to measure the temps with? Like I said, she could be doing it just to do it. Gordo goes crazy, jumping up the sides of the tank and running around like mad if he thinks I'm not paying attention to him often enough. Which is about every 5 minutes in his mind, lol!

Is 80 the hottest temp she has in the tank? If so this may explain why her feces are looking different. Beardies need to have acess to temps around 100-110degrees in order to properly digest their food, as well as maintain general health. Try upping the temps and see what happens.
