Baby Leos with deformed eyelids.

Sypha Jul 03, 2005 11:38 PM

I was wondering if many of you breeders have ever seen their baby leos with eyelids that were either missing or deformed. I have two hatchlings. One with a severe case of deformity, where the upper eyelid appears to be on the bottom, and the bottom on the top. The little one won't make it.. this much I know. And the other one has a mild case of the same thing.. only with one eye it is normal, and the other is a little deformed.

So, who else has had this happen? Or has heard of it?

I saw a pair like the first one you described. They were for sale in a petstore and were adults. As such the little one might survive. The petstore had them labeled as deformed but they seemed healthy enough besides the eyes. They were blind but somehow managed to eat. The best of luck to you.

There is some speculation as to why this happens....

The most commonly accepted reason for this happening is fluctuating incubation temps....

You need to look into your incubation methods.... You can improve the quality of your incubator by hooking it up to a thermostat to give it more consistant temps....

You might also want to look into you supplementation as well....
