first ball python is eating it's first meal

skeletor121 Jul 04, 2005 02:29 AM

I got a ball python the other day and waited about 5 days before I introduced food for him. I was going to wait a week, but it had been a while since he was fed and decided 5 days was enough since he seemed to be starved. He is happily scarfing down a mouse right now. One thing I noticed about him is that he loves climbing. I was told he probably wouldn't climb, but he loves to climb up to the light fixture (not the heat bulb, but the flourescent fixture that came with the cage) and hide between the light and the cage. Is that normal? I will try and post some pics once I get my camera working again.

Congratulations!!!

Is he trying to get closer to the heat by chance? If this isn't the case, then its normal for ball pythons to find the smallest, tightest spot in the tank to hide. Apparently thats the spot where he feels most comfortable. Since he's eating, he's obviously ok with his new home, so I wouldn't worry about it. As long as he's not in danger of burning himself, its not a big deal.
