does this look like gravid colors?

dan-binderup Jul 04, 2005 04:41 AM

My female have been with a male (on and off) for the last two weeks. copulation has been observed a least 7 times! the problem is that the female does not seem to be aggressive towards the male. I know that vieled females get very aggressive towards the male? any thoughts?
here is a pic. of the lady.

best regards

To me the dark background says non-receptive/gravid. I have
had the odd chameleon that will not show aggression to the male
when she looks like that and the odd one that will continue to
mate when she looks like that but would eventually show
aggression to the male. Don't know why it happens though....maybe
it takes a little longer for the "hormones" to kick in on some??

Some very passive females will never reject the male even when gravid. I have one like that. If you leave her in there too long she may get eggbound. Get her her own cage one where she can not see any other animals or the male and provide her with a laying tub so she will be ready to use it when the time comes.
Just make sure the substrate does not dry out too much if it stays in there several days. She should start laying about 20 days from the time she became gravid. Make sure she is offered food daily at this point and slightly up her supplementation. Mostly the calcium just make sure not to over do the d3.
Good luck with mama!
