how to SAFELY mail leos???

Aesear Jul 15, 2003 03:02 AM

I have a couple babies (little over a month old) and I'm planning on sending them by mail to someone who lives in Denver Colorado (I live in Grand Junction Colorado). I know that many people successfully mail herps and I was wondering how to do it so that I can insure that my babies arrive at their destination alive and well. Thanks for your help guys!

First you have to have an 8 oz. deli cup wiht holes on the side and a lid. You put 2 or 3 layers of paper towel on the bottom and slightly mist them then you put the leo int and put the lid on. Next you need tou have an insulated box, make sure its new so it doesnt crush. You pack the box with news paper and half way up you put the deli cup and leo, then you put paper around the cup and some above it so it cant get shaken up to much and the seal up the box and ship it.

You should really put holes in the box, right through the insulated packing to allow for air exchange too.

what kind of mailing should I send them? same day air? overnight express? Also, will they be able to do all right even though they are only a month old?
thanks!

I have received babies that's about a month old via UPS and they did fine. Just make sure they have enough insulation in the deli cup so when the box is being moved around they don't get hurt. I like to tape the deli cup onto the bottom of the styrofoam container, stuffed around the deli cup with shredded paper then poke airholes on all 4 sides of the styrofoam box. You should ship them via overnight if sent via a courier service and Express Mail if shipped via the post office. Drop the box early in the morning at the post office to make sure it gets to your destination the next day.
