Crying out a warning...

Antegy Jul 04, 2005 12:01 PM

So, while I had my burm (who is about 12' now) out in the back yard for some summer sun yesterday, I noticed something going on up in the trees.

We were out on the back porch, and he was making his way about the yard - doing whatever it is that he wanted to do, not really bothering anyone in the process.

While we were out there, there was a bluejay up in the trees screaming away, for a good long while too.

My guess was that the bird was 'warning' other birds in the area to stay away - "danger!" (of the snake). Anyone think that is what was going on? Anyone else ever had something like this happen?

Thanks,
- Mark

the other day there was a wren screaming in the yard only about 20 ft from my 0.2 burms while they were out in the yard

Mocking birds are even better, they will come down in groups and do these wierd displays with their wings to try and chase a snake away from their territory. When it turns out to be a 10 footer, they sometimes end up just milling around on the ground (at a safe distance) looking like they're trying to figure out what to do.

"Peck at it."
"No way dude, you do it!"

There's a barn swallow who built her nest in my garage and now has a vendetta against me. She buzzes me like a friggin fighter jet! Cusses me out too. She hasn't even seen me with a snake! Tis funny.
