OT - unexpected family member

el_toro Jul 04, 2005 12:47 PM

Yesterday, I got a surprise - a baby anole crept out of one of the cages! My supposed female anole Sprocket turned out to be male, and though he was separated from Leeloo after I found this out, he had clearly proved his manliness already. The egg was laid, incubated, and hatched in a potted plant, completely without my knowledge.

Its name is Pickle, since that's what it left me in - I was totally unprepared for a new little one. Trying to find fruit flies or pinhead crickets on a Sunday of a holiday weekend is NOT easy.

Just for funzies, here's another shot of Pickle in its new cage. Snout to tail tip, it's just over 2". I'm feeding it aphids from the roses outside until my fruit flies get here.

Pickles is adorable! What a tiny little guy. Will he have to eat fruit flies all the time or will he graduate to small crickets? Congratulations on your new baby.

There's two of them now, and we think we've spotted another egg. (!!) I found some pinhead crickets locally and have some fruit flies on order. We've also got plenty of aphids in the rosebushes.
