Health and diet questions...help please.

Recently me and my family, including Gabe the gecko, were transfered to Louisville KY. Well since the move three months ago it appears that Gabe stopped eating. I offer crickets and meal worms and it seems that she is not interested. Later in the week I see crickets and beatles in the tank.

She lost her tail as a juvi and had a short fat tail now the tail is short and thin. Is this any indication of her health. Her eyes are still clear and she is active in the tank. The only ting that has changed is I have not been using her light during the day. I have been relying on inderict sunlight. Temps in her tank are consstantly between 78 - 85 F.

Here is a pic of her with a fat tail. I will post another

Thanks...

You can start by getting the temps up. A hot spot of 88-92 would be best. With a cool side temp at, or slightly higher than room temperature. Ideally below 80 on the cool side.

Nice - I think Jeremy is right on:

Leos need a basking area that is least 88 degrees to undergo proper digestion. As they're cold-blooded, they ALSO need a thermal gradient for proper immune system function, metabolism, and digestion -- for example, the leo will move back and forth from the warm and cool ends of his enclosure to regulate temp.

As Letkey rightly pointed out, try this. Its very cool that you noticed the eating habit and weight changes before it was a real problem. If it doesn't get better (damn, I am going to sound like a broken record with this!...) go to the vet and get a fecal done just to start ruling out other problems.

From the little I can see, I think your set-up looks great. Yay for the non-loose substrate (carpet?)....though I hope you use/start using heat cable or flexwatt if there's a plastic top to her set-up (?)

Thanks for the info. Now that I read your post. I did remove the uv 60 Watt ligt in the day time. The tank is now upstairs where the temp stays in the range of 76 - 78 F. I thought that that range and the UTH would be enough. I will get both a day and night light and report back in a week or two.

Thanks again...

If you read my post from Monday I am dealing with temp issues to teh point of getting my Gabe the Gecko sick. I had him in a 10 gal tank with only a UTH pad as a heat source. Since we moved 3 months ago and her tank is now upstairs where the ambient temp is 78 F I thought I did not need another heat source. Well monday night I went out and purchased bulbs of three different watts. Well the temps are now to high with a hot side of 95 - 97 degrees and a cool side of 82 - 85 f.
Well to solve some of this issue I purchased a 20 gal long and now the temps are 84-87 f on the high side and 74-78 F on the low side.

With all that said here is a picture of her new home
