well if you read a few months ago a friend of mine who was breeding rats for feeders, gave me her surplus pinkies....
what i was doing was feeding a rat pink, the next feeding a mouse fuzzie......
well now for some reason, naaza wont accept the fuzzies, he refused to eat 7 days in a row making it a around that he had last eaten, today he once again refuse the fuzzy, i even scented it with a rat pink.... he coiled up and wouldnt touch it.... 10 days ago he ate the rat pink with no problem.... today after refusing the mouse fuzzie i put in a mouse pink.... he ate that...the fuzzies to me look close to a hopper.... they have a good amount of fur, could it be the fur he doesnt like? or could i have spoiled him?
my best friend says ill be shaving mice if i have to.....LOL

let him go a week and give him mice fuzz .......or hopper.....make him switch to eat both......I have alot of corns that will only eat one food item.it is a pain........make him go back to mice now if you can get mice easier.....

usually they will eat either or....

they just have their little hissy fits at times.....

thats what i was trying to do, but he seemed to prefer the rat pinkies, over the mice fuzzies.... i figured, when he sheds which should be in about 2 more weeks, ill try with a hopper, til then i will give him mouse pinks..... usually after he sheds he will take what ever i give him.
i dont want him on one item, maybe once i get him eating the hoppers, after each 3 hoppers a rat pink?

why not feed rats anyway? I switch all my snakes over to feeding on rats as early as they can take a rat pink. They are more nutritious, have much higher calcium levels (due to increased bone mass) and higher water content as well as higher nutritional values. Once you get to a large enough animal, price per gram they are much cheaper than feeding mice. I wouldn't see this as a problem...

well that was why i was feeding the rats pinks, i heard they were more nutritional for the snake, but then i was told he would never be able to eat a weaned rat.....

Corns can eat adult rats once they're adults themselselves. NO need to worry about that. I feed all my snakes rats & they really grow well on them.

adult corns should not eat an adult rat..actually I never met a corn that could eat my adult rats...my rats grow to 3 pounds or so?..never wieghed them......

adult corns should eat small and extra small rats.....fuzzy and hoppers ........or adult mice.....

I have alot less problems now that I feed one mouse (not huge) a week ...rather than 2 or 3 mice or a huge mouse or more...

fat snakes suck........for them and for you........

.........rats and mice are both good for food.....

friend says he has balls on rats and some on mice.the rat eaters are mooshy and the mice eaters have better muscle tine...

they are both good.....

Don feeds mice rather than huge old breeder mice....which are too fat and all intestines and fat.......

I agree....normal almost adult mice (4 or 6 week old mice).are better.....than old

........

anyways................

Not jumbo rats like you're talking about, but they are certainly capable of eating a "normal" adult rat. I'm thinking of the size I have kept as pets in the past, not the enormous ones.
You can put your snakes on a feeding schedule that doesn't keep them fat & unhealthy & still feed rats. I feel like rats are more nutritious & a better meal for the snake than mice. That's personal preference. Plus, my snakes are breeding, so I want to make sure they are a healthy weight for that activity.
