I would use a smaller and sturdier hide for that snake. The box is much too big and open, Use a small plastic 'spread' tub (ie the buttery type spreads, cleaned out with hot water of course) keep the lid on and just cut a hole on the top that is twice the width of the snake. The snake should be able to fit in the hide with little space left. Just a suggestion... please don't take it the wrong way.

Is that box put together with sticky tape? If so this is a BIG NO NO... it's very dangerous for snakes if they get tangled in it... can rip some scales off. I can't see if it is tape... but I hope not

well, if you leave the butter in the container, would that make it a buttered corn

paper towel rolls make great hides. they like to just squeeze into a hidy place vs. one that is to big. pretty little snake.

I swear by black frozen food trays, like Stouffer's meal trays or Glad's new reusable/disposable cooking pans. All my herps spend all their time in them, they just love em!

You bet I found it challenging to find dark hides, so I eagerly share the info when someone's looking. I like that border bowl idea, too. One real plus to the Gladware trays is that they come with plastic lids, too, so I can put damp paper towels in there when the snake's blue & create a humid environment w/o dampening the cage substrate. This trick has produced really wonderful sheds!

i think im going to use the border bowl and ur idea where do u get those treys at??

phiber_optikx Jul 07, 2005 01:14 AM

Yeah you just use the border bowl and cut a small hole in the plastic lid and line the bottom with some spagham moss! make sure that you nuke the spagham moss BEFORE you put it in the bowl because there are fungus spores in most moss that causes mold and you can't nuke the border bowl bowl also your snake will get under the moss as a hide so it is very natural for them! Hope gets in there and stays for like a week before she sheds. ever since I put it in there she has had perfect sheds everytime!

I buy them at my local grocery store. They sell a 13"x9" pan size that's good for my adult snakes. That's the one with the lid. For my littler ones, I use the Stouffer's frozen food trays.
