looks like a male eastern box

yeah... I always thought that only male eastern boxes had red eyes. I was quite surprised to read above that it laid an egg.

Oh! oops, I missed the second part....

Now that I've taken a closer look at the photo of the plastron what I thought was a convex towards the rear appears to be the effect of some moisture collected in the scute margins.

Ah, wataya gonna do..... sorry to mis-inform.
