What size UTH

rbriers May 17, 2003 12:34 PM

What size UTH is recommended for a 20Long tank? A 10/20 or a 30/40? This seems like a phenomenal grasp of the obvious, but I've read here and on many care sheets (such as LizardLady's)that UTH's are often insufficient as a heat source alone.

Well, i would probably go with the 30/40 actually. This is becuase the 10/20 is better on a 10 gallon. The 10/20 is kinda small for a 20 gallon and it only covers like a very very small area. The 30/40(dont know exact measurements) would probably cover maybe half or 1/3 but that is much better than having the uth not cover enough. An under tank heater CAN be the only heat source, just make sure you have a rheostat or thermostat to control it.

Josh - thanks for the info! People with experience such as yourself who are willing to share knowledge with others make this an enjoyable and safe (for the gex) hobby. After I learn how to properly care for leos, I hope to be able to assist others as well... RR
