Well since you're in a snake forum, we'll deal with snakes... Here are some examples of snakes that can call a 10 gal home:

Mexican rosy boa, San Felipe rosy boa (rosies tend to like small cages)
Rubber boa
Mexican milksnake
New Mexico milksnake (harder to find, but nice and small and eat mice)
Western Hognose, especially males

You'll need to know the specifics for the species above to take proper care of them, but they'll fit.

the ones already mentioned is pretty much what i would say, but go to the small terrestrial snakes forum and ask there, because all of the snakes there would fit easily in a 10 gallon tank. also, im not totally sure, but a small sand boa might fit, though im not for sure about it.

The list others have posted is good so far, although I would disagree that Scarlet Snakes (reptile egg specialists) and Ringneck Snakes (snake and salamander predators) would be "good" candidates for keeping.

With almost all the species mentioned, you might want to get a male snake to ensure it stays small enough. You should certainly look at

- male western hognosed snakes
- male rubber boa (captive born only)
- male african housesnake
- males of most species of sandboas

All of these species stay small and are hardy in captivity. Make sure you get a correctly sexed male because females of most of these species get too big for a 10 gallon (a female rubber boa would be fine).
