HELP!!! Shipping/Moving a 6 foot Colombian Boa!!!

skorzy Jul 05, 2005 10:26 PM

Hi all,

First, I apologize if this is a redundant request. I searched but did not find any specific information that will help me. I'm hoping someone has advice for me, because time is running short!

At the end of July 2005, I will be moving from Massachusetts to Southern California due to a job relocation. I have a very well behaved, 6 foot Boa constrictor pet named "Emmy".

I will be moving my belongings by shipping container (upack.com), and that includes Emmy's large Vision enclosure. I will be driving myself across the country, but my trip will require almost 2 weeks. Taking Emmy along with me on the road is not a good option.

I have a friend that is willing to "babysit" her until I get to California and can get her enclosure set up, however, I have NOT found a cost-effective way to ship her there! HOW DO I DO THIS??? I've heard some airlines will ship your reptile, but you need to be a "verified shipper" to do this?

I would VERY much appreciate advice on how to ship Emmy to California! She's about 30lbs..so she's a mid-sized boid. Who should I contact for shipping? How should I pack her?

I'm worried for my girl!

I have heard about shipping reptiles "Delta Dash". I think it is airport shipping to airport. I thinki your friend goes to the airport when your ready and ships it, and you meet the flight at your nearest airport shipping. I think that is how it is done. I have never done it. I do know that some breeders only ship this way. Check with Delta to see how you do it. Good Luck, and let us know what you find out. Derek

Go to google, then Delt Dash, then Pet travel info, then pet travel options. They will do it air cargo, and it is climate controlled, but you need to give them notice, and set things up. I don't know what it cost, though. Good luck again. Derek
