Can you 'fix' geckos?

geicogecko Jul 05, 2005 11:01 PM

Can you sterilize a male or female gecko? And if so how much would it be?

LOL,
I've heard this question asked once or twice in the past. Kind of funny one too. Imagine, a dog being sterilized is how much? about 100$? (as oppose to a little amount of 10$ or so). So how much more or less can you expect a tiny lizard? IF they even do it. PRobably double the price of a gecko. Thats just a guess though. You could probably ask a vet, theyll tell you probably.
Let's have fun here:
Everybody take your best guess at how much it would cost to do so. Then if geicogecko goes to the vet and asks how much it would cost and tells us, we'll see who wins, or who came closest. And the WINNER will get a prize of NOTHING AT ALL! but some fun in being able to say I WON I WON I WON I WON I WON!!!!
lol

Why the heck would you want to do that?! I feel bad enough that I had to "deflate" my male cat's manhood to let him be an indoor/outdoor guy...

That would be an extremely traumatizing proceedure for such a small animal, with a high risk of infection and a very high probability of a botched job.

We all know leos multiply like bunnies but why not just spend the money on another cage? Leos really don't need "friends", that's just an anthropomorphization on our part.

But, hey...that's all just my humble opinion.

They have that option for iguanas, but I've been told the procedure can actually kill your iguana. I also felt bad when I had to neuter/spay (don't know the correct term here) my female kitty because of the ongoing meowing and spraying. But it's different for cats and dogs that sometimes it's better for them to have it done. With reptiles, I don't see them posing a problem that would need it. Unless you're housing a male and female together and do not want eggs layed, but then there's a simple solution to that. Get another enclosure.

A new setup would cost about... 30 or 40 for the tank and lid (depending where you get it) tile about 6 dollars, a gladware container for a humid hide 2 dollars, a food dish and water dish 4 dollars, a log hide for the dry hide 8 dollars and an UTH 20 dollars. (all just rough estimates). somewhere around 80 dollars for a new enclosure (guessing that your getting a 20 gal long and not doing any shortcuts for the stuff they really need.) ok so we have a new enclosure for 80 dollars that will save one of your leos life because it reduces the risk of parasites and diesease spreading, and reduces the amount of stress on the animals compared to an operation that has a good chance of killing your herp and costs somewhere about 250 dollars or more. I don't know what you'd take but i'd take them option where its a lower risk of health on my lizard and lower price. Oh yeah and like someone else said, your leos dont need friends or other leos in the cage, they do just as good if not better alone.

Well.. I am asking because I just found out I've been keeping my two "female" geckos together and one is a male. I don't know when they start mating but I'm getting worried about it. I can't buy another cage because we're about to move and my room is very tiny. As soon as I move I want to buy a big tank but right now it isn't an option. I don't know what to do to keep them from that.

Maybe you should get rid of one of them if you are having that much trouble caring for the two together.

maybe you can divide the tank with a fit piece of plexi glass or something? they will cut it to exact size at some rag shops and most framing galleries. If the tank is to small then the best bet is getting another tank.
