A few questions...(long)

LizardLuva Jul 06, 2005 09:56 AM

I havent even gotten one yet and im asking questions...

Ok #1: I plan on getting a very young male at a local expo, i will find out what he is currently eating, but i plan on preording some F/T at the expo too (since i dont have to pay for shipping and i get a 10% discount) Link:
Rodentia
Now see i dont know what to get (since i have time to think it over, i plan on getting a '06 Very Young male in about a year from now). I dont no the quantities to get, i was planning on 25 of the older mice sizes, but would it be better to just buying rats, or should i see how big the python is first and then buy accordingly?

#2. For the cage i was planning on an aquarium, but i dont know about heating? I was planning on using a 12 hour timer with a Basking Bulb During the Daytime and a UTH during the night (i was thinking about building raisers for the tank so the UTH does not touch?) But i have also looked into Ceramic Heaters and the Red Bulbs, so i would not disturb the snakes natural light cycle.

#3. Humidity. How would i go about doing this? I know how the ambient humidity is supposed to be 60% and it is best to provide a hidebox with 70-80%. I read somewhere that lighting and an wire topped cage will not allow this much humidity? also how do i make the hidebox more humid? another thing is how do i check the humidity inside the hidebox? i was planning on using a hygrometer inside the cag, or would it be better to using a electronic device?

Thanks for reading all of this....

Ok #1: Don't put the cart before the horse - when you get your snake - find out what it's eating and go from there.
>>
>>#2. Skip the basking light use an UTH on a thermostat or rheostat. If you can forget the tank and buy a vision cage that would be a plus too. Balls spend 9/10 of their day in the hide - don't worry about lighting.

>>#3. No screen top - no light bulbs - a good substrate - appropriate size water dish - occasional misting and you should be fine. Hide box doesnt need to be more humid - you can provide a humid box during shed cycles if needed - but that is a separate box. Too much humidity (expecially where he's gong to be spending all of his time) can lead to problems.
