Well, I think I'm beginning to have some progress on Gahzirra's sudden crankiness.
I've noticed that first thing in the a.m., he's more than happy to come out to do his first poop in a nice warm tub. Then I spend a little time with him, maybe help pull some shed off (did the end of his tail yesterday), then I put him back into his enclosure to bask and have breakfast.
I'll then just leave him alone until he comes to the door of his enclosure and just sits there, looking at me (this is a completey new behavior here). I can then open his door for some interaction (usually), and I let him decide if he's ready to come out for some exercise/exploration/outdoor sun-soak. If he's not, he'll turn away and go back to his basking spot, and I'll just close his door. I still get in there to change his water, give him more food (he eats around 1/2 cup of MK salad about 4 times a day), or to offer a treat. He hasn't gaped his mouth at me now for the past couple of days since this "routine" started! He's still squirmy at first when I pick him up, but he usually settles down pretty quickly.
Well, this is where we're at at this point. Just thought I'd post an update.
OH, and he's really not bobbing at the cats any more. Every once in awhile he'll give a few nods, but mostly he just ignores them now.
