Meet Ayana-New Somali Female

pgross8245 Jul 06, 2005 11:11 AM

Just had to share a photo of my new girl I got today. She is a Somali (u. Macfadyeni) female. She is a little thinner than I would like to see and is missing the very tip of her tail. I don't mind, but I wish they would tell you these things prior to shipping. She weighed in at 87 grams. My other two I have had for almost two months now, the boy gained 32 grams the the girl, who started slower, gained 15 grams, so I am pleased. She will eventually join the other two after she is well acclimated and I know she is healthy. Enjoy!

She's beautiful! I'm such a sucker for the blue ones! Are you planning to breed them?

Thanks everyone. I do hope to breed them sometime in the future. I need to get some weight on this little girl. I have to say I am disappointed in her overall condition.

It all looks fine to me as long as she's not gravid. Good meat on the legs and hips. 80g is definitely in the healthy range for new. Considering how much weight I've seen them lose after an initial intestinal purge, she might just be "empty".
I don't worry too much about superficial defects like tail tips and toes. With some of the hostility I've seen (in other species) it's always possible I'll see (and HAVE seen) similar occurances happen.
You better watch out, your macfad count is creeping slowly towards mine

Thanks for the encouragement Scott. She is just kind of creeping me out like the wc geyris...she is stiff, lethargic and has her eyes closed a lot. Where did the 1.0.0 u. benti pseudophilbyi come from????? Where are the pics???

She is beautiful as are all your Macfads! I am very impressed with the weight gains you achieve. My little guy has only attained a few grams in as many months.

Thank you for the compliments. Weight gain is individualized in the uros as it is in humans. I try to weigh mine every few months unless I see a problem. I always weigh everyone before winter. During the winter when most of mine semi-brumate, the weight stays fairly constant or they will lose a few grams. That weight and then some is put back on starting in late spring. As long as they are gaining and are healthy, don't worry about it.
