why won't it EAT

cockaroach Jul 06, 2005 12:08 PM

I have a C.B. two year old frilly. Her (I think) appetite has always been on and off. She eats for a few days or weeks, then won't eat for a few days or weeks. The lizard is only 5 1/2" snt-vnt & 16" total length. I offer gut loaded and vitamin dusted (a few times a week) crickets mealworms or waxworms daily. I use a feeding dish. Im sure the environment is right. 80's ambient temp, 90's basking. Ive tried it warmer too. Large water dish, climbing branches, night bulb, 60 gal aqaurium, I use coco shell because it makes for good humidity. I spray daily to ensure hidration(she doesnt always drink from the dish). I tried a little hibrenation this winter.
I just took the lizard to a qualified herp vet and am waiting on a fecal exam. He thinks its possible there is a G.I. obstruction or a constricted intestine that makes her sick until the feces can pass by it, and then she will get her appetite back. X rays and blood will be next.
I also noticed some small lumps on the ventral surface the past month.

Apparently there was evidence of hookworms, and a secondary bacterial infection of coccidia. Hope it answers my 2 year old question. Ill be sad that I didnt go to a vet sooner though. Please respond still if you have input. I will be treating with dewormer. Thanks

Follow your name and use roaches as food. This is how I always kept my frilleds so fat and happy.
