HEATING THE SNAPPER TANK

thomas_dixon888 Jul 15, 2003 09:42 AM

Hello,
I have a small common snapper in a ten gallon with a golden mystery snail/apple snail, and was wondering if it's ok to place a reptile under tank heat mat on the aquarium. under or on the side?- does it matter? I have the smallest one. 4 watts. also how can i brush his shedding off? I don't have fluorescent. I think that helps.

I think a small in-water aquarium heater would be better. I have no experience with heat pads, but I did use a heating blanket for my savannah monitor when it was younger. For the shedding, bye a toothbrush specifically for that. I still use one on my snapper.

Is it normal for them to snuggle up to the heater? We have a cylindrical submersible(sp?) heater and we finally had to hide it behind a large rock because she kept laying up against it. I'd move her away from it, and she'd turn right around and go back to it. How do you lecture a turtle that could care less who or what you are?
