Sponge/Cleaning question

CivicChick Jul 06, 2005 01:25 PM

OK so I'm looking for a sponge I can use to clean off the sides of my aquariums & my terrariums. I bought some O-Cel-O sponges today, then realized when I got home that they say "Not for aquarium use." I called to ask why, and the man told me that they put an anti-bacterial agent in the sponge to prevent the sponge from smelling badly, and they also put a moisturizing agent in the sponge so that it's wet when you get it & it looks prettier (who knew so much thought went into sponges, btw? ) But here's my question....is it worth the risk? I went back to the store, and did not find any sponges that didn't say "not for aquaruim use" on them. Also, I'm almost positive that I've used these kind of sponges in the past on my tanks, and nothing bad has happened. I really don't feel like spending $18 at the pet store to get some sponge with a fancy handle that is going to scratch the side of the tank (which is why I'm looking for different sponges in the first place). So should I just test it out?

that way you don't take the risk. I wouldn't use a sponge that expressly says not to. It is very possible that they changed the formula since you used them.

you can get "natural sea sponges" from almost any art store. they're cheap, work great, and they look kind of neat...
