I e-mailed Tom at Reptiledirect about caring some disinfectants.
He e-mailed me back and asked which ones, so I thought I would post to the forum to get some good idea's. Anybody have suggestions?
Thanks,
Karen

Hiya.
Is this something that you can just use to spray and wipe or spray and let dry?
I'm looking for something like that for the small tuppaware container I put my snakes in to weigh them... don't want to have to compleatly wash it everytime I want to weigh a snake from a different cage. I just want to put snake one in... weigh take him out... spray down the bowl and put snake two in...
Also it would be great if it could be used in cages with the snake still in there... to clean up a corner not the whole cage... of course I don't mean directly spraying but it would be nice to know if this is non-toxic.
Thanks
- Sharon
Hi Sharon.
Vet clinics use diluted Nolvasan to disinfect their tools, equipment, etc. The Nolvasan cream is basically the same thing, but in a cream form. It is used to apply to wounds, cuts, and burns to ward off infection - just like Neosporin or Iodine does. It can even be used inside of a beardie's mouth for mouth rot (Stomatitis). It is absolutely safe.
I use reptile carpet in my beardie cages and I can't change the cage mats every day when they poo. So I get as much up as I can then spray the area with Nolvasan - while the beardie is still in the cage - I let it soak in for a few minutes then dab it up with a paper towel. It completely takes away any odors and leaves a fresh, clean scent.
As far as disinfecting, you have to leave the container wet with the Nolvasan for 5 to 10 minutes. It depends on the strength of the Nolvasan. It should say on the bottle. It's like bleach in a way - if you want the germs gone you have to give it time to kill the bacteria.
I hope this helps you out. I use Nolvasan on everything. You just spray it on and wipe it off. If you'd like to know what a bottle of Nolvasan looks like, click on the link below and go to Recommended Products. Good luck!

Oh yeah, it's great stuff. I hated using bleach because of the harmful odors. You can get Nolvasan online at...

A pint will last quite a while. I have three bearded dragons and one pint will usually last us 6 months - depending on how often you disinfect. I would also try to get it locally first. You can usually find it where you can buy farm supplies or vet supplies. Like a local feed store.
Good luck.

Thanks so much for the info. I found it at my vet supplier for 11.95. About $3 cheaper. Heres their e-mail for those who may want it.
