gopher eating habits

LvnWtr4u Jul 15, 2003 10:24 AM

I'm new to this reptile thing and I know when mamals don't eat for weeks they die. However, my gopher snake has not eaten for 3 weeks (due to being gravid) She laid on the 13 th of July and has not eaten yet. When should I expect her to eat? Before her fast she ate lab mice and during her fast ( not knowing her condition) I presented her with them regularly, of course she refused. When should I worry about her not eating? And should I maybe offer her some other type of food?

Pull her out and let her crawl on the floor or through your fingers to see if she may still have an egg lump or two. If she looks and feels good then she should begin eating in a few days. Offer her food every other day and maybe try a small rat.

Keep us posted on your outcome - Del

Oh Yeah she is just fine! She bit the fool out of me! By the way will she be ok with three less teeth? They were left in my finger! She snaped and I jerked away. Normal reaction for first time snake owners! Man this creature is full of piss and vinegar LOL. Probally won't eat for a few more days now huh? I just want her to be healthy.

Toss a towel over the cage for a day or two. Then offer he some food. She may be feeling insecure and after she settles down then take the towel off and go from there. She'll be fine without the teeth LOL!!!
