Thanks for sharing all your info guys.
Steveh, I think the garage is where all my stuff is going next also. I'm pretty confident based on what the OK Fish and Game told me about the Ally's got bigger as a result of the higher water temps.
I haven't found a true albino yet either.
Someone emailed me a (name held for courtesy) referral for a guy in FL, that has an Albino project going and hopes to have offspring next year, but they are for common snappers.
I spoke to the breeder on the phone this morning on my way home from work and he said that Albino Alligator Snappers just haven't happened yet. He's been in the herp world since at least the early 70's
Dewback sent posted about GO GO Snappers, after googling and translating digging around through links off this site I found pics of some of the weird ally's he was talking about.
1) google "go go snapper"
2) click translate on the first page then start 'digging around' you should come across a page somewhere there that has a bunch of different pics of snappers... I'll post the exact link when I get home in the morning...
There are a couple that are close to Albino on those pages, except they have dark eyes. So, since I know that it's just going to take some time to track one down as close to albino as possible, I think that I will try for a really light leucistic from John Richards to start with, then in August, September when P&J have some hatchlings, I will order one of their Pinkest Pinks from them for 40.00 and see what I get.
I currently have a hatchling (A.S.) that has lighter colored skin (chocolate milk
), but has a golden shell. I'll take a few pics this weekend, and try dig up tips for posting pics from one of the old threads... I'll also take some other pics of my current set up, and the other snappers in my tank.
This weekend I am adding another 60 gallon feeder tank set-up to my room for the Leucistic. Then next weekend my friend who designs filters and hot rodded filter conversion kits for salt water tank enthusiasts is going to come over. We're going to custom design and build a couple of filters for specific my tanks. I'm also going to start talking to him about the inevetiable stock tank filtration.
I'm thinking 300 gallon, or two 125's... one indoor ( garage where it's warm ) and one outside.
Ooops time to get back to work...
Thanks Again~
