composition of hybrid "varieties"

lilgemsmice Jul 07, 2005 02:38 AM

I was wondering if anyone has gone through the trouble to compile a list of all of the various hybrids that are being created? Specifically, I am interested in those that define the components of colubrid hybrids. The more commonly advertised jungle corns and jurassics are reasonably easy to find info on - but what about the less discussed combinations that lead to what some people are calling "carpet kings" and "leopard kings" and "clown kings."

If nobody else has done this yet, I would like to list all of the terms used for colubrid hybrids and explain what breeders use to create those amazing creatures. Any input is much appreciated!

thanks, charlene

wow, those are cool. I don't think I've seen anything quite like that. Thanks for the pic.

After posting the message asking for assistance with creating a list of hybrid varieties, I realized that there are a lot of varieties that go unnamed. I guess that everything that can be done, has probably been attempted at some point or another. I recently bought a hybrid of 5 different combinations, he was labeled as a "hypo" (he looks a bit like a lavender.) The combinations in this little guy are Pyro/Greeri/Ruthveni/Alterna X HolBrooksi/Alterna.

Anyway, so far the list of colubrid hybrids (with names) I have compiled is something like this:

Jurassic Milk
Jungle Corn (AKA King Corn)
Super Corn (same as above, but a higher % of cornsnake)
Creamsicle Corn (and other "color names" for Emory/corn hybrids)
Frosted Corn (usually a grey rat/corn cross)
Imperial pueblan (AKA painted king)
Turbo Corn
Cornduran
Clown King
Candy Colored Clown King
Leopard King
Royal Milk
and I may be missing a few more, I am not looking at my records right now.

that is what I was trying to get input for, a comprehensive list of the hybrids and what was used to create that variety. Some of the varieties are common, and some I have NO idea what species were involved in their creation. I have tried doing searches on the internet, using the propriety names, and came up with nothing in some cases. Once I get a comprehensive list, when a few gaps are filled in, I will post the entire list. If no information is available on some of the hybrid names used, then I will drop those names from the list. I just want something to publish for reference for hybrid fanciers.

hybrid varieties compiled so far.... feel free to post corrections or additions.

jungle corns: california kingsnake x cornsnake. AKA "Supercorn" when the composition is at

least/about 75% corn lineage. AKA "King Corn."

jurassic milks: most typically a lemon king (albino california king x florida king) crossed

with a honduran milk.

Creamsicle Corn (and other "color names" such as "rootbeer" for Emory ratsnake/corn hybrids)

Frosted Corn (usually a grey rat/corn cross)

Imperial pueblan (AKA painted king): pueblan x banana california king.

Turbo Corn: cornsnake x gopher snake?

Cornduran: honduran x cornsnake

Bubblegum Ratsnakes: various albino ratsnakes combined into a very pink colored hybrid.

velvet corn: ruthveni x corn

There are also numerous hybrid varieties that go unnamed (I even have a sinaloan milk x corn and have not seen anyone bother to name that cross yet.)
