Black pastels - What do you think?

maladil Jul 07, 2005 12:22 PM

First things first. My camera sucks. It is great for long distance, but not for close up with a flash. I need a lighting tent and all that... I know.

I finally hatched out a nice clutch of Black pastels. Here's one of the stranger patterns I've seen in a black pastel so far. I have posted the father and mother on a forum since I don't have my website up and running yet.

The father is a pretty nice black pastel and the mother was a normal that I thought might have been a cinnamon because of her rich brown coloration, white belly, and extreme blushing with very reduced pattern areas near the tail. I think she passed that on.

To see all the photos of parents and hatchlings go to the link below.

Here's a view from the other side of the tail. I almost got a bullseye ringer on her. I still have hopes that she gets more aberant after her first shed. We'll just have to see.

Once again the full family tree is on a forum linked below. And I know my camera sucks and I need a lighting tent.

Thanks,
Jason

I like Black Pastels a lot - lovely contrast - the density of the base colour sets off the other markings beautifully..

What is the 'super' like and has one been produced yet ?

I heard that a black pastel x cinny breeding produced an all black, patternless snake. I believe black pastels are just another line of cinnamon pastels. I know that pewters can be produced from a black pastel x jungle pastel (also, like the cinny x pastel produces). I'm a big fan of the black pastel myself. I think there are a lot of crosses yet to be performed with this morph.

Hope this helps,

Tom
