Star pattern on eggs

buffysmom Jul 07, 2005 03:35 PM

My 1st clutch of corn eggs is due to hatch any day now. I've noticed a small star pattern on most of the eggs. Just one on each egg, like a formation on the shell. Is this perhaps where the babies are working on piping?

Nope...not pipping. Some eggs just get that weird star shaped growth on them. It's never seemed to affect mine that I can tell. When they pip you'll just see some little slits and some goopy stuff sometimes comes out. The egg will stop looking all fat and round and will start to dent in a little just before the baby comes out. At least that's what I've observed with mine.

Thanks. The first one piped last night. It's still sitting there with only its little head out & so far none of its siblings have joined it.
