I don't know if it will help you but;
A Field Guide I know for sure that covers Bosnia and Croatia is the "Collins Field Guide - Reptiles & Amphibians - Britain & Europe". ISBN 0-00-219964-5. It's not a massive tome, but does cover what you might find, where (ranges) and with illustrated IDs. It will easily fit in your pocket/back pack. I think I'm right in saying that it was last updated in 2002, so some of the taxonomic revisions might not be reflected in this.
It is written for the monolingual too (well if you speak English it is anyway)! Sorry I don't know of any more specific (useful) guides for that area. Hope it helps a little.

There are several versions of the "Collins" guide written by Arnold, et. al. If you can find one of those, you should be fine. Amazon lists them, but they have slow delivery times for that book.
