URGENT: Mite question!!

boaluvr123 Jul 07, 2005 06:39 PM

I have recently found my snake collection to be infested with mites. My pair of hog islands, and my jungle carpet python has them as well, but i have not noticed them on anything else, but i am going to treat all of my snakes anyways. My question is, are my lizards in danger as well. I have a crested gecko colony that sits upon a dresser, away from most other reptiles in my room , but i have some baby cresteds, as well as a leachianus and a few pairs of beardies near the cages as well. none of them seems to be showing signs of mites at all,but i am scared like nothing else that the rest are going to get them. what do you all suggest i do? i am using reptile relief, and i already dosed one of my hogs in it and it killed them all withing seconds. I will post updates daily , but ANY help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated. thanx

i have done this with the "BEST" results ive ever seen in any product .

i buy a product called "NIX" at any convenient store. its a product for humans used for lice .. its a shampoo .. i put all the contents of the NIX bottle inside a spray bottle and dilute it 1 part NIX to 20 - 25 parts water.. shake and mix well and spray snake and enclosure with it . take out all waterbowls for atleast 2 days .. this is so that after you spray the animal it doesnt run the risk of poisoning itself if it lays in the water with the NIX and then drinks it. i do this once and the repeat in 2 weeks.. ive had mites in the past and have used everything !! this IMO is one of the best and most practical ways of doing it . Good luck !! Koky

very interesting , how does it work in preventive measures i always work to prevent incase i come back from a show dirty with mites or eggs. I use the hatz flea and tick powder for cats as a preventive measure. I've never lost a snake to it and i put it in everytime i clean a cage. I have known people to use it to actually kill mite infestations too but the cleaned and pwdered the cages every 5 days. Paul
