Are you going to be building it inside? I ask because a cage that size would not fit into my current home and it was built with the needs of the original owners handicapped child. If it won't fit into our house I'm guessing it won't fit into most.
Another option is to build a cage that can be broken down and reassembled, but I do not recommend that given your admitted lack of building skills.
I think the safer choice is to decrease the depth of your cage. Instead of 36", drop it to 28" or less. Even then I would cut out a piece of cardboard that matches the footprint of your proposed cage. In your case a piece at 72"x28". Slide that through doors, around corners, etc. and see if it will fit.
Understand that any cage project is going to need to be modified for your specific needs, so finding detailed plans may not be easy. However, there are a lot of sites on the web dealing with caging for Chinese Water Dragons which have similar requirements as your Basilisk.
You might google: ["water dragon" cage] or similar combinations. Don't include the brackets.
Lot's of good links but I recommend ignoring their advice on wood sealers. Many of them recommend water-based polyurethane which just won't hold up.
