Kukuri snake: Spoon Fed.

Oxyrhopus Jul 07, 2005 10:06 PM

I did a lot of research on these snakes and learned they eat eggs although books said eggs, lizards, frogs. They never mentioned rodents. Well, I tried lizards, frogs, and even toads because someone said they eat toads. This gal ate nothing but chicken egg. Tonight I wanted to show how fast this snake was conditioned to accept egg. Weeks ago when I received it, it took several hours for it to approach the bowl with egg, but now it eats from a spoon. I also dipped pinks in the eggs and it ate several pinks and a fuzzy this way.

Now only if I potty-train it.

Talk about "born with a silver spoon in ones mouth" LOL, great pics Dan! Is it switched to scented now? That wc lyre I got switched to rodents after tying lizard parts on once, then scenting the second time. Now it eats hoppers like clockwork.

I tried live and dead rodents weeks ago and it was afraid of them. Eventually I will try again however will still provide egg as egg is perhaps vital to its diet.

Fantastic work Dan!

Yes, the subforums are "dying"

I think a lot of people read the subforums, but myself, find that I have nothing much to contribute to them.

Ever checked out how dead the gharial subforum is... humerous indeed

Well you also have to think about how many people actually keep gharials. They are not easily obtained and if they are they will be extremely expensive. Even some of the most well known croc breeders donot even have access to gharials. I personally dont see the point in them putting that up their yet.

I agree, I love to see posts from some of these guys but don't have a lot to say myself apart from my own experiences. The rear-fanged subforum is one of the few forums/subforums I visit on the whole kingsnake site so it would be a shame if it does start to die down. Keep up all the posts with new additions, they're the best ones!!!

N.B. Nice job with the kukuri, those pictures really are amazing!!

Very cool! I have yet to see a live one of those.
