Blue bullfrogs

peregrinefalcon Jul 15, 2003 11:41 AM

I found one behind my friends house yesterday and the front part of it's body was a very nice metallic blue. It was basking on a log right beside a huge American toad. After we brought it back and put it in a cage with water it slowely changed to green. And then later we let it bask on a rock and it turned blue again. He has to let it go today. How rare are these? It was found in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.

It may have been too warm and then turned blue. My waxy monkey treefrogs will sometimes turn blue when they are basking. Blue bullfrogs are pretty rare though, because they are lacking the yellow pigment. How are you peregrinfalcon? Long time no see...
