My fingers are crossed on this clutch!!

This girl is a poss het genetic stripe on 9 eggs. Get this, she's 2 weeks from her 2 year B-day and she was almost 2000 grams at 18 months when she was bred by a 100% het genetic stripe male. I had a couple of females this year that were twice her age and almost twice her size lay only 6 and 7 eggs! If she doesn't prove out, at the worst, I'll have more 50% poss het females!

...eggs. The eggs are not small by any means. I did not weigh them. A couple smaller clutches did have larger eggs. Thanks.

Nice... I've been saying all along that it could be done! I have several girls that bred at 2 years of age. Even one het ghost that turned two when her babies were hatching. She bred again this year and gave me 7 good eggs.

Congrats! I hope you hatch out a few Genetic Stripes! Wouldn't that make your year! You gotta love this Hobby!

Have you ever personally witnessed such breedings having a negative impact on the animal? I hear people saying it's bad all the time, but I have yet to witness any negative results myself.

No I haven't, just heard that breeding a female to early shortens her reproductive life. It doesn't matter since I'm not lucky enough to get one that size that quick. Thanks for the feedback, Ron

I know studies have been done with fruit flies showing that higher reproductive output by females shortens their life span, but I don't know of any research like this that has been done on any vertebrates. If anyone knows of any, I would love to hear about it and read it. I would imagine that someone somewhere has done something like this with mice, but I don't know. Anyway, there are my .02.
