Can M/F westerns be housed together?

Malays Jul 08, 2005 03:36 AM

Hello
I am interested if a male and female western hognose be housed together in large enclosure all yr long?
They will ofcourse be fed seperately. Anyone do this or any experience with this ?
thank you

The general concensus is to house hognose seperately. Some do keep them together however. They dont need large enclosures, so I would just keep 2 small enclosures and not worry about any mishaps.

I have an extra 55 gallon tank and plan on getting 2 hognoses so thought it might be possible to just house them together.
I think I am going to build a divider and give them each half the tank with small mesh but strong mesh as divider in middle with a wooden frame.
Your right might be to risky to house them together.
Thanks

I assume you would be getting a couple of juveniles.? In any case I would maybe find something else to put in the 55 gal tank. I would suggest getting a couple of 10 gal tanks for the hogs. For the most part they can live their life in there. Maybe once they are full grown they could have a 20 gal. I wouldnt put any hatchlings in too big an enclosure. Something small will make them feel more secure. In a large enclosure they may not feel safe which could stress them out making them not eat. Hope this helps.
