Need help Incubating eggs

jtjreptiles Jul 08, 2005 07:10 AM

My veiled chameleon dropped 18 eggs last night, and i have them in a covered, ventilated deli cup. I have them resting in moist vermiculite and placed them in a hovabator. Since my house runs around 77 degrees, do i need them in a hovabator? And do i need to worry about humidity? My house is very dry, will keeping them in the hovabator unplugged keep them at a higher humidity?

Any help would greatly be appreciated

Jon

You can actually hatch them at room temp. Usually takes anywhere between 6-8 months. Keep them in a dark place, such as a closet. And make sure your egg medium doesn't dry out. Never spray the eggs directly if water is needed. Moisten the vermiculite that surrounds the eggs. If your eggs turn a little yellow, then you've got too much water.
You can incubate them if you wish to do so. Keep the temps around *80. Less than this they'll take a little longer to hatch. More than this, they'll hatch sooner, but you'll have smaller weaker babies.

thank you....the eggs may have gotten wet when moistening the vermiculite around them, i will be careful not to do that again.
