letting your gecko wander

j_elmore44 Jul 08, 2005 11:45 AM

i look at some of your pictures and see that your geckos are just wandering around on your bed and stuff. do you guys let your geckos do this or is it just for the pictures. sorry for the dum question, but when ever i put my gecko on my bed she will dart to the sid and start crawling down the side of my bed. and if i let her loose on the couch she allways climbs up my shirt and the darts off again.

I just do it for pictures. There are too many places for a gecko to hide to let them wander. If I am handling them, I let them walk around, but nothing more than an arm's length from me so I can get them if they try and run away.

I let my gecko roam around my bed when she's out. She knows where she can and can't go. If she wants to go to the edge of my bed and climb down she comes back and nudges my hand first. So I can put my hand under where she's climbing in case she starts to fall.

My bed's only about 8 inches from the floor. I have 2 twin mattresses on the floor. So I have no worries about her getting hurt since she can just stand on the floor and look at my bed.

But with yours darting out like she does, then I suggest if she's out, to keep a very close eye on her.

allright
is there a way you can make like a giant enclosure type of thing so she can walk around on the ground and stuff, like you can get for little kids so they dont go wondering off?

Building an enclosure...
Step one: get large Box
Step two: Place open box over top of gecko...kidding

You can make an enclosure out of anything your gecko cant climb (no screen, corrigated cardboard ect..)slippery plasic works nicely just do a little circular fence, and make sure you still supervise the gecko in there!

I let my gecko wander around my bedroom while I'm folding laundry sometimes. She can't go anywhere in there, but I still watch her like a hawk. I also sometimes let her run around on the livingroom floor, but that's only when someone other than me is home so we can keep her from going where she isn't supposed to.

maybe i will clean my room and make it "gecko proof" as best as i can when i get home from minnesota ( i live in montana ) and let her wonder around. i dont think i can let her just wonder in the living room because my mom wouldnt help me if the gecko started running off, and i dont trust my brother holding her. my mom is kinda scared of touching her, but is facinated by the gecko when it eats and what not.
