New Young Leopard- Important questions about eyes Need Help!!!

sacredpurr Jul 08, 2005 07:23 PM

Hello, My 4 inch blond leopard arrived yesterday and I soaked it and it drake quite alot. I noticed that its eyes stay shut alot, I have owned alot of turtles and toroises(but not any Leopards) and to me the eyes look swollen, no discharge no wheezing and it has eaten some. All seems Ok except the eyes. So before I take this lil one to the Vet I wanted to ask any experienced Leopard people if this is abnormal. I was told prior to me getting it from FL that it ate greens,Tortoise pellets, ect. And this person has many tortoises so I assume it got the proper lighting/heat. I also notice some pryminding( but again I was told leopards tend to be higer doomed and have some. If I was told wrong please let me know. I do not know how to post a picture on here yet but if anyone wants to see it please email me at sacredpurr@yahoo.com. Also lastly any tips on care differet than sulcatas, red foots, greeks, boxes and russians please let me know and thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

OK I think I may have figured this out. I sure hope. Please check out the eyes on this photo and the next one to see its eyes. In these photos the eyes are open a little bit, Now the eyes only open during soaking. Thanks

Give the little guy soaks, at least daily maybe twice a day in luke warm water.

You should be able to find a caresheet asomewhere for leo's, if not a sulcata caresheet should work fine. Their care is basically identical. UVB, basking area of about 100F, ambient of about 80-85F, an a [bleep]load of fiber (grasses, hays, some greens, and of course some mazuri to boot!).

I'd get the little guy to the vet ASAP, an expierenced herp/tortoise vet mind you. Let us know what the vet says...

Good luck

That does not look like a healthy tortoise but it does not look hopless either. It also looks like a hybrid between a SA leopard and a northern form. Otherwise it looks pretty nice. A vet visit is definately in order.

email me directly and I'll send you a copy of an article on the keeping of leopards.
