One female dead, another on the way....HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

sebastian924 Jul 08, 2005 11:54 PM

Well, a few days ago one of my females died. I assumed it was due to a fight as I had her in a tank with one other female. I found her without a tail and extremely weak. She died within a day. I thought she was roughed up, but it turns out those marks may have been from a disease. My other female is now showing the same symptoms, very weak and disoriented. Neoscales.com talks about a problem/infection Entamoeba which I'm sure she has. Where can I get flagyl, and how much do I give her, I really want to save her. Any help would be great!!

OMG im so sorry to hear that. If i was in ur possition i would be freaking out so i know how you must feel right now. You can the that flagyl from a vet which would be quickest and i know LLLrepiles has it but i wouldnt wait for delivery. Any normal vet will have it even if they don't treat reptiles bc it is for mammals too. If i were you i would post this in more than one forum to get the most replies. I have no idea what you should do so here ya go.

you should try your best to get a supply of flagyl from a vet, ask them to find out the avg dose for an animal the size of your cresteds, and look at what has been recommended by randy of neoscales in the article u said u have read. when i had a leopard gecko that was ill from another organism that could be treated with flagyl the dose a small one and only one treatment with a followup later on. i hope this helps, good luck.

One day they were fine, the next, their colors were dull, eyes sunken in, they couldn't walk striaght, and were pretty much helpless. I'm in love with these little guys and see them everyday so I know their condition constantly. It is as if this happened overnight. I check on them everday and when I saw them it was immediately noticeable. Then, after seeing their condition, they died within an hour. One died 4 days ago, the other last night. Neither lost weight, both ate every night, even if it was just a little gecko diet. Any ideas? Could this be caused by too hot, too humid? The whole rest of my colony (in dif. tanks) are doing great.

The process of dying from an amoebic infection takes many weeks. Weightless over several weeks (usually visibly evident when it’s already severe), dehydration due to the loss of intestinal epithelium (the cells lining the gut), and lethargy are its telltale signs. At the end they are unable to even hold onto your hand and do nothing but sit motionless on the ground – not a fun sight.

If your geckos die suddenly, then another explanation needs to be considered (a toxin or husbandry condition should be at the top of the list)

Sorry for your loss,

My condolences on your loss....
Did you put any new live plants in your cresties cage that might have had insecticide or fertilizer on them? That is the only thing I could think.
