Beginner in need of help

cooperslut Jul 15, 2003 12:51 PM

ok, a few points i really need help with:

Temperature: Now with summer temperatures of roughly 30 degrees celsius, i am having trouble keeping the tank's temperature down to 85F and 75F, with the common temp being 91F both sides. To try and make the cooler side nearer 75 i have put ice in the tank in a container so he doesnt over heat

any practical soluions from anyone who has had this problem before?? i need to get the temp down.

when my snake buries itself in the substrate does that mean that it suffers from the extreme temperatures??

more problems will arise soon im sure but i cant think of any more now, THANKS A LOT FOR ANY HELP I GET COS I THINK I NEED IT.

I don't know if you have an upstairs and a downstairs, but I find that my main floor is much cooler in the summer. I don't use AC, but my downstairs stays acceptably cool even on hot summer days. If all else fails...do you have a basement? Take a thermometer into various parts of your home to see if there is a better spot. Needless to say, with those temps you should be able to unplug your heating units for the season. Good luck.

Try placing the tank lower to the ground...as heat rises, this may be the coolest spot that you can find. If all else fails, and you just absolutely cannot get it cooled off, try a closet. I'd hate keeping the poor thing locked away, but if it'll make it happy, it could be a good temporary fix. Hope that helps!

Since you don't have air conditioning, the easiest way to get the tank temperature down would be with water evaporation. Put a thermometer in the tank so you can monitor how well various methods work. Try draping a wet towel around the tank. You might even aim a fan at it. Make sure the snake has water enough to bathe in. A broken flower pot soaked in water will make a cool hide. (the unsealed ceramic will absorb some water).
Good Luck.
