SoCal Herp Results:

This is a list of what was caught. Many other animals were seen but got
away. All were released except a pair of desert iguanas and a pair of long nose
snakes. Over 2 days (1 night), here are my results for June 18th and 19th, 2005:

3.2 leopard lizards
6.3 Desert Iguanas (many many others seen but not caught)
1.2 Chuckwallas (only 2 young also seen)
0.0.2 Zebra tailed lizards (many others seen)
3.7 Desert Night Lizards
1.0 Desert Horn Lizard
around 5 Desert Spiny Lizards
TMTC Side Blotched Lizards
TMTC Whip Tail Lizards
0.0.1 Patch Nose Snake
3.4.2 Long Nose Snakes (they where all over the roads!)
0.0.1 Adult Side Winder Rattlesnake (also one DOR)
0.0.1 DOR Shovel nose snake
60+ Scorpions

That's the list. The animals I kept are doing very well and all are eating
great. They will be used in a herpetology class at my school (Humboldt State Univ.)
Does anyone know of a good spot for fringe toed lizards? Have been looking all
around with little luck. I really would enjoy a pair of them!

thanks for your time, ericR

Are you thinking of the San Francisco Garter? They're protected.

EricR,
There are now two species of Sharp-tailed Snakes and thus your sighting of these snakes in Humboldt County, Calif. is of interest. Only the new species or Forest Sharp-tailed Snake has been documented from that county. While I was gathering evidence in support of the new species, I had a study site at Carllotta, Calif. in Humboldt County.

At any rate, if you could provide either GPS coordinates or a description of the locality where you observed those sharptails and other circumstances, I would like to add such imformation to my file on the species.

If you wish, you can contact me by e-mail at: charinabottae@earthlink.net
